The sound of fists against a punching bag echoed through the nearly empty school gym. This late in the afternoon, most people were usually anywhere but working out -- unless, of course, they preferred having the place mostly to themselves. Like Venus.
She didn't mind people too much in general. It was just easier to get around and be left alone when less people were around. It came in handy to the blonde girl. Less stray objects to trip over, people to avoid, and questions to ignore. All Hive members were required to keep at least well enough in shape, and Venus would be damned if she let anyone think she got special treatment because she was blind or the war consultant.
Which was why she stood in front of a punching bag beating the bejezums out of it. How could a blind girl manage to do this? It was anyone's guess. But in shorts, a sports bra, and with her hands taped up all boxer-style, her white-blonde hair pulled back into a pony tail, she looked dangerous enough. Just the way she liked it.

Danny walked into the jump, arms crossed over his chest. All he wore was a pair of gym shorts, and his exposed stomach make him feel self-conscious. The gym was practically empty that day, so he dropped his arms down and let himself relax a little. Normally, Danny wouldn't be in the gym, but he has to work at keeping those nice abs of his sometime. Staring at the ground as he walked so he wouldn't spontaneously trip over something, he didn't notice the punching bag come at him.
Stumbling back a bit, Danny was able to stop himself from actually falling. He rubbed his forehead furiously. "Watch where you're punching that thing," he growled, but it didn't sound evil at all. It was impossible for Danny to be scary, and he knew it. He gave the person a glare, than immediately blushed and looked down.
The person who had been hitting the punch bag was a girl. She wore too little clothes for Danny to not blush, but he tried to hide it the best he could so she wouldn't see. She had a strong punch, and he made a mental notice to never be on the receiving end of it. However, his throbbing forehead reminded him that he was still mad. And he was going to get revenge.

Too busy focusing on the dense punching bag, Venus didn't notice the boy until he made contact with the swinging thing. Surprised, she held out her hands to catch it and stop it before edging around to get a better 'view' of the intruder. "Is that supposed to be some kind of lame blind joke?" She snorted lightly, crossing her arm. Tapping her foot a few times to get an idea of where he was, she pointed her face in his general direction, though ended up being a little bit off. She wasn't perfect, but she could usually get close enough.

Danny was a like a dear in headlights, eyes widening at the girl. "NO! I-I-Of course not! I didn't know!" In the moment of panic, he looked around, trying to find a way out of the mess he just made. He didn't mean to insult the person at all, it just happened that way. Damnit, Danny, this is what happens when you try to act tough, he scolded himself.
Gently grabbing her face so it appeared she was looking at Danny, seeing as her face was pointed slightly in the wrong direction, a mad blush crept on his face. He was happy that she couldn't see it. Dropping his hands instantly, he gave her an apologetic smile before realizing she couldn't see that either. "I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to insult you in any way."

When the boy started freaking out, it took all Venus had not to laugh out loud at him. It probably wasn't the best thing in the world that she enjoyed doing that to people, sometimes, but that was just how Venus was. If she couldn't have a little fun with her blindness, then what was the point?
Him touching her face, though... that was a little weird. "Relax, I was just giving you a hard time," she mumbled, taking an awkward step back. "Do you always touch other people's faces?"

Danny looked down, embarrassed. It's not like he did that to everyone. He had a good reason, too! "Sorry, your face was just pointed in the direction of the wall, even though you were talking to me, so... uh... yeah." He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, kind of hoping that he could find a way to end this talk without just walking away like a jerk. But at the same time, he didn't want to stop talking to her. "I'm Danny, by the way."

"Yeah, most people just ignore that." She shrugged, moving to lean against the nearest wall. "I'm Venus," she replied as she began unwinding the tape from her hands. "You know, like the Roman goddess. My mom had a weird obsession with them." She rolled her eyes, finishing up her first hand and moving on to the other. "So why're you here so late? Don't have anything better to do?"

"I was thinking more of the planet," Danny muttered, sitting on the edge of the neared piece of gym equipment. "And I just thought I needed to work out some. I haven't in awhile, and now would be the perfect time since no one's here." Danny shrugged a bit.

"I thought I was one of the only people that preferred an empty gym," Venus laughed, surprised. Laying the used tape aside she reached over to where she was pretty sure she'd left her water bottle. Luckily, she guessed right on where it was and brought it gladly to her lips. "Why don't you want people to see you?" She asked, curious.

Danny shrugged, not really wanting to answer the question. Getting irritated that she was unable to see his answer, he decided to just admit it. It's not like she could see how red his face was? "I guess I'm just a little self conscious."

Putting the water bottle down, she lifted her head and tilted it at him. "Self conscious? How come? You don't seem too bad to me." She grinned at him, kidding.

"Oh, haha, very funny," Danny said, rolling his eyes at her. He automatically crossed his arms across his chest again, feeling slightly uncomfortable. "Thanks for that ego boost. It makes me feel loads better," he told her sarcastically.

"That's what I'm here for!" She laughed cheerfully. "Look, I don't care what you look like, and you shouldn't care if anyone one else does. If you worry too much about it you might go insane." With a shrug she sat down on the ground, stretching her legs out in front of herself.

"Easier said than done," Danny remarked at what Venus had said. He liked talking with her, seeing as she was a lot different than most people. It was very refreshing. He wanted to ask how she became blind, thought better of it, and realized the silence was getting awkward and they were running out of conversation topics. "Seeing as I came here to work out instead of talk, I'm going to go over to the treadmills. Nice meeting you, Venus. Maybe we can talk again some time." He smiled at himself, feeling like he accomplished something by talking to another person. And despise the way they had met, Danny had no urge to cause revenge on her again.

---Timeskip of AWESOMENESS---
She should have stayed in the Hive's tunnels. Venus just knew it. The rain hadn't been too heavy when she'd first left, but by the time she was halfway to the girl's dorm it had begun to pour so hard that Venus lost track of where she was, exactly.
"Shit," she muttered under her breath, crouching to the sidewalk to lay a hand against it, trying to get a grip on where she was going. It didn't help much, but it was enough for her to get just far enough to find some shelter beneath a tree. Her long blonde hair clung to her face and back, as well as her jacket and jeans. If only it would stop raining for a little while, maybe she could get somewhere dry... but there was no telling how long it would be before that could happen.
